This year we will once again be hosting a Summer Bibleland Experience at Jefferson Memorial Park each night July 12-16. The Bibleland Experience is appropriate for the whole family to do together. We will attempt to bring the culture and history of the Bible alive by pointing to the customs, arts, foods, beliefs and activities of the Hebrew people during the time of the Exodus and beyond. A special tent titled "Real Times, Real Places" will be devoted to the historical information gathered from archeology in the land of Israel that underscores the validity of the scripture accounts and helps to place Bible events in their cultural context. Another tent will provide Israeli foods to sample as well as a chance to make a flat bread common to the area. Moses will tell his story and students will have a chance to quiz him about the events of the Exodus.
Pre-Registration is encouraged so that we have a count for the week, but the event is free. In case of rain, we will send a text to parents as to the status of the Event!
"Then people brought little children to Jesus for him to place his hands on them and pray for them. But the disciples rebuked them. Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” Matthew 19:14
We believe that our children learn most about faith by watching how their parents worship. For this reason, children are welcomed to attend the Sunday Message with their parents, in which we include a "children's message" just for them!
Sunday school provides a structure for teaching God’s Word. Preaching isn’t enough. A systematic teaching of the Scriptures – not just preaching (Acts 5:42) needs to occur through all age levels. Children, youth, and adults need opportunities for discovery, review, and interaction as they study God’s principles. Sunday school meets needs!
Sunday school gears Bible teaching to a specific age group (Deut. 31:12). That means a wiggly four-year-old can discover great biblical truth by acting out a Bible story, completing dot-to-dot pictures, singing fun songs, and obeying parents. During the same hour, senior adults may discuss whether their relationship with their spouse or responses to daily crises reflect their trust in God. Both age groups leave Sunday school with specific applications for the week.
Vacation Bible School (VBS) is a nationwide program that OCC has been participating in for many many years. VBS incorporates themed activities that entertain kids with the chance to learn about God and the love of Jesus Christ. VBS is offered to the community and OCC membership is not required to participate.
VBS lasts about five weekdays in the summer. Children attend around 3-4 hours each day.
